Dr. Jimmy Vellis was born in Maryland, raised in Virginia, and currently lives in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area with his wife and two infant sons. He attended the University of Virginia on full NROTC scholarship, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Following graduation, he attended Howard University College of Dentistry in Washington, DC and received his doctorate degree.

Following graduation from dental school, he moved to the Tampa, FL area and practiced general dentistry for eight years. Dr. Vellis thoroughly enjoys dental surgery, and his passion for surgery led him to apply and gain acceptance to a three-year postgraduate residency program specializing in Periodontics and Dental Implants at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in Lexington, KY. Dr. Vellis served as chief resident during his residency and graduated #1 in his class. His additional surgical training has increased his gravitation toward the surgical aspect of dentistry. Dr. Vellis is an extensively-trained dental surgeon who has placed thousands of dental implants. He has a passion for placing dental implants, doing full arch reconstructions, and improving the quality of his patients’ lives. Dr. Vellis believes in providing compassionate, quality dental care with a patient centric attitude.

To aid in ensuring his patients’ comfort during dental surgery, Dr. Vellis holds certifications for the administration of intravenous conscious sedation and has been trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

Dr. Vellis has traveled to Ghana, Africa and Bolivia on pro bono mission trips to aid in restoring dental health in some of the world’s neediest populations. When Dr. Vellis is not spending his time perfecting his patients’ smiles, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two young sons. He spends his free time attempting to play basketball, coaching youth baseball, working on various home projects, and volunteering with his church.
